Get ready for the biggest pet adoption event in Greater Chicagoland! Join us at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake, Illinois, on Saturday, September 27, from 11am-4pm for Super Adoption Saturday. This family-friendly event brings together animal shelters from across the tri-state and Chicagoland area with one goal in mind—helping homeless animals find loving homes!
3 Steps to Adopt
1. Fill out the adopter survey. Complete the survey in advance or see a member of our hospitality team once you’re onsite.
2. Meet the animals. Visit with adoptable pets throughout the event space to see who you connect with. There will be 300+ animals looking for homes – including cats, dogs, rabbits, and guinea pigs!
3. Process your adoption. Once you’ve met your match, finalize paperwork and pay the adoption fee (if applicable) at an Adoption Completion station.
Insider Tips
– Come Early! Doors open at 11 a.m. and we expect crowds. Adoptions are on a first come, first serve basis.
– Bring a photo ID. Many of our adoption partners will require a state issued photo ID or passport to process an adoption.
– Prepare to bring your pet home at the time of adoption. Due to the nature of the event, we are not able to hold animals for individuals at the event space for a later pick-up day or time.
– Recruit an extra set of hands If you do adopt, you may want to stock up on pet care supplies with our event vendors. Make sure to bring a friend or family member to help you with loading your car up.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Can I see the animals ahead of time? There will be 300+ dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs at this event from 18 different organizations – we’ll have a pet for everyone! Unfortunately, we don’t have photos of those animals ahead of time, although individual organizations may post photos on their social media of the animals they’re bringing leading up to the event and you can see some of those right here on this event page! Just view “discussion” posts.
Q: Do I need to get pre-approved to adopt or fill anything out ahead of time? Nope! You don’t need to do anything ahead of time, but if you want to be one step ahead we recommend completing the Adoption Survey (available in both English and Spanish here): https://chicagolandhumane.org/…/super-adoption-saturday/
Q: What are the adoption fees? All 18 rescue groups will have their own set of adoption fees, ranging from $0-400. Most participating groups will have heavily discounted adoptions! Look for yellow flags which signify groups providing discounts.
Q: Do you do out-of-state adoptions? Yes! Adopters are just in charge of transportation. Come visit us from anywhere! 🙂
Q: Do I have to adopt same-day? Yes, we are not placing “holds” on any pets at this event. If you meet your match, you will take your pet home after completing the adoption. So, please have space ready in your vehicle and be ready to bring your new pet home.
Q: Do I need to bring anything? Bring a valid photo ID, credit card/debit card/cash, and your family!
Q: Should I bring my dog or cat from home? Nope! Please leave your resident pets at home. The groups will be prepared to give you instructions and info for intro’ing your resident pet to your new pet at home.
Q: Is this event kid-friendly? Yes! Feel free to bring the whole family. Please instruct your child on safe-handling of pets and do not allow your child to put their hand into any crate. Volunteers will be around that can provide guidance on safely meeting pets as well.
Q: Is there parking? Yes! A huge parking lot is right outside the door and this event is fully accessible for all, there are no steps. If you need any extra assistance meeting pets, please let us know when you are at the event.
Q: I’m not in the market to adopt, but I want to help out this great cause. What can I do? That’s amazing! Consider purchasing some of our limited edition merch at this link or by making a donation on any of the participating group’s pages.
